After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts in History from Georgia State University in 1996, and his Master of Arts in 2010 and Master of Divinity in 2012 from Luther Rice College and Seminary, David received his PhD in Old Testament at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary under Dr. Russell Fuller in 2017.
David was born in the Canary Islands, Spain, to Cuban parents. He married Ann in 1999 and have two children. He was ordained into the ministry by Iglesia Cristiana Monte de Sion (Mount Zion Christian Church) in Snellville, Georgia in 1993; the church his father helped plant in the 1980s. He served as elder and teaching minister until 2003.
In 1996, David began teaching U.S. History and Government at McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia. He also served as consultant and teacher-trainer for the Southern Center for International Studies.
In 2002, David was elected the first latino Republican to the Georgia House of Representatives in the state’s history, and represented district 103, now 107, in Gwinnett County. David is now serving his eighth term.
In 2003, David began teaching at Berea School of Ministry and soon after was named Academic Dean. In 2008, he resigned his position in the public school system to commit completely to this ministry and to continue his studies at Luther Rice. David served as Vice President for Academic Affairs (2009-2010) and in December 2010 he was inaugurated Berea’s second President. He also continues to teach hermeneutics and Old Testament courses.
